Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens
The Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that connects people to the park through volunteer service, education, and recreation. This unique park, only a few miles from the Nation's Capitol, reveals the only remaining tidal marsh in Washington, D.C., natural riparian environments along the Anacostia, and breathtaking historic water lily and lotus in ponds. We encourage public discovery of the park through community events, volunteer activities, and educational programs for youth.
The Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens celebrates and protects this special place by:
- engaging volunteers
- supporting educational and interpretive programs
- building community partnerships
- fundraising for special park initiatives
Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens is your voice for this park.

Volunteers engage in a wide variety of service activities, including lily pond restoration, removal of invasive plants, planting, pruning, trash removal (land and river borne), and other projects as needed. We typically work on the 4th Saturday of the month, and we host large volunteer events for Earth Day (April), Good Neighbor Day (May) and National Public Lands Day (September).
