The Choice Neighborhoods program supports locally driven strategies to address struggling neighborhoods with distressed public or HUD-assisted housing through a comprehensive approach to neighborhood transformation. Local leaders, residents, and stakeholders, such as public housing authorities, cities, schools, police, business owners, nonprofits, and private developers, come together to create and implement a plan that transforms distressed HUD housing and addresses the challenges in the surrounding neighborhood. The program is designed to catalyze critical improvements in neighborhood assets, including vacant property, housing, services and schools.
DC Housing Authority submitted an application to HUD for approximately $30 million in Choice Implementation funding on September 10th, and its draft Neighborhood Transformation Plan on September 13th, 2013. The Transformation Plan, incorporated into the application, was the result of the extraordinary work and support of many parnters, including Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens for over the past three years.
Unforuntately, Kenilworth-Parkside Choice Neighborhood Initiative Program application for Implementation funding was not selected by HUD as a finalist in 2014.
DCHA is committed to moving forward with or without HUD funding and, together with you, will arrive at a strategy for the implementation of the ambitious and creative plan we all developed together.Read More...
