Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens Competes for $20K of Donated Design Services on May 17

We are thrilled to be selected as a finalist in MakeDC's first ever Designing Dreams competition! Please join us on Saturday, May 17 from 5-8pm, and cheer us on as we compete against six other finalists for donated design services to engage the community in developing a plan that would dramatically increase and enhance public access, expand the visitor experience, and increase vibrancy at the park. We need you. Audience participation will be part of our success!

Here are the finalists.


Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens: Improve the public access and visitor experience at the park, home to the city’s only remaining tidal marsh.

DC Youth Orchestra Program: Develop a portable installation that would allow musicians to hold a concert anywhere in D.C.

Anacostia Business Improvement District: Manage a design charrette to bring all neighborhood stakeholders together and create a uniform vision plan for the new BID.

Kid Power: Lead the educational nonprofit in a rebranding effort to increase awareness, grow its donor base, and expand capacity.

Latin American Youth Center: Implement a sustainability retrofit for LAYC’s anchor site and increase the organization’s efficiency through well-designed user spaces.

Joseph's House DC: Redesign and upgrade the 1,500sf healing garden that surrounds this end-of-life care facility for homeless individuals.

Georgetown, DC: Programming, architecture, and landscape design for the underutilized C&O Park Mule Yard, adjacent to the historic C&O Canal.
